This exquisite, fine china collector’s plate was produced for the University of Judaism (American Jewish University) in 1997 and features a work of art by Harry Lieberman. Lieberman was a well-respected painter known for his portrayal of Jewish folk life. He immigrated from Poland to the United States as a young man. He was bored again, however, so he began to paint–“if you have activity that is what brings you back to life, ” he said–and continued to do so until he died in 1983 at the age of 102. His paintings hang in museums throughout the world and he is listed in Who’s Who in American Art. The painting exhibited on this plate is entitled. The quote on the back of the plate reads. Ezra, on return from Babylonia, rebuilt the Temple. He removed all the laws and sacred records and put in explanations and helped the Jews get back the strength of their belief and keep it alive.
